How the conversion works
Every rate is stored as the INR value of one unit of the currency. The conversion goes via INR:
Converted = (Amount × INR-per-unit of 'from') ÷ INR-per-unit of 'to'
- Exchange rate shown = INR-per-unit of 'from' ÷ INR-per-unit of 'to'

Why your bank's rate differs
- Banks and money changers add a margin (spread) over the mid-market rate.
- Card networks apply their own rate plus a foreign-transaction fee, often 2–3.5%.
- Remittance services and forex cards each have different spreads and fixed fees.
- Rates move continuously during market hours; a static table can only approximate.
Getting a better rate
Compare the all-in cost (rate plus fees), not just the headline rate. For large transfers, specialised remittance providers usually beat bank telegraphic-transfer rates.
